Our mission: Provide care & "forever" homes, for bull terriers in need.
Who we are: Bull Terrier Rescue of Florida, Inc. is a non-profit organization which operates as a charitable, animal welfare organization with IRS 501(3) (c) status. All contributions are appreciated, tax-deductible & used only for the bull terriers in need. We have no overhead costs and our directors and agents are all volunteers. Our volunteers give of their time, money & talents, for the safety and welfare of bull terriers & also the public.
What we do: We rescue bull terriers that are unwanted, surrendered, sometimes due to behavioral problems or economic necessity, an owner’s death or incapacity, or worse- ignorance, neglect or animal cruelty. Some are strays, lost, abandoned, or in undesirable situations. We first care for their health, evaluate their needs and temperament, for a minimum of 3 weeks. We provide attention, love, food, water & shelter, either in our kennels or in an approved, foster home. Before adoption, each bull terrier receives needed veterinary treatment & a microchip ID. We care for each bull terrier that is considered adoptable, until a suitable "forever" home is found.
We find some people think they want a bull terrier until they realize the work, time & expense involved or what a major part of the family they must be. Some people do not realize how to best train bull terriers, the importance of early spay/neuter, how rescued bull terriers may react in multiple pet households. We spend time with those considering adopting a rescued bull terrier into their family. We also sometimes offer advice to individuals who want to surrender their bull terrier.
Please understand- not everyone who contacts us will be approved for adoption. That is not a judgement on your worth or ability as a human being. We know from experience that certain home situations may / may not work for the needs of certain rescued, bull terriers. While every bull terrier we offer for adoption is ready to give all of its love and loyalty, we strive to place each dog in a home where the lifestyle of the family will meet the needs of the dog. We carefully screen for "forever" homes with a loving "Alpha leader" to help ensure a successful adoption. We do not want the dog to come back into rescue, get lost, or placed in an environment unsuitable for its needs.
NOTE- we only adopt to homes in FL because: 1. we require a home check & 2. the dog is to be returned to us, if the adopter no longer can keep the bull terrier.
